Barnes & Noble Story Time
February 24, 2007

Throughout February, 500 Barnes and Noble stores across the United States held Down syndrome awareness events, featuring a storytime for children. Anne, mom to Archie, was asked to read the books "I Can, Can You?" and "We'll Paint the Octopus Red" while many children and parents representing the Family Alliance looked on.

Melissa Riggio, eighteen-year old daughter of Barnes & Noble CEO, Stephen Riggio, wrote an article that was published in National Geographic Kids magazine. Melissa wrote in her article, “It’s true that I don’t learn some things as fast as other people. But that won’t stop me from trying. I just know that if I work really hard and be myself, I can do almost anything.”

The article, "I Have Down Syndrome" written by Melissa Riggio is available to read at National Geographic Kids Magazine.
